Lviv citizens and visitors can withdraw cash from the contactless ATM using cards and devices with MasterCard contactless technology.
UniCredit Bank in cooperation with MasterCard, Alfa-Bank Ukraine and Euronet Ukraine officially presented Ukraine’s first ATM in Lviv. The device allows contactless withdrawal using contactless payment technology by MasterCard. Operating in the test mode, the innovative ATM can be found at 10 Mitskevycha Square, Lviv.
The new ATM enables easier and safer non-cash transactions for all holders of MasterCard contactless payment cards. All one needs to do is bring a contactless card or device close to the reading unit of the ATM in order to withdraw cash or make any other transaction with the card.
“Contactless payment is a trend which is developing rapidly in Ukraine: according to the NBU data, the number of contactless cards exceeds 1.5 m, while the acquiring network covers 88,000 terminals. Implementation of contactless technology into the payment infrastructure is a step towards innovative payments using mobile devices with NFC solution: smartphones, watches, etc. In such non-cash reality, even transactions in ATM are possible with any payment device with contactless technology. We are pleased to have such partners in Ukraine as UniCredit Bank, Alfa-Bank Ukraine and Euronet Ukraine who are open to innovations. Together we manage to implement solutions which prepare country’s infrastructure for contactless mobile future,” Vira Platonova, Director General of MasterCard Europe Representative Office in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, noted.
The ATM is also available for holders of cards equipped with magnetic stripe and chip. Cash withdrawal from this ATM for UniCredit Bank clients is free of charge, other transactions have standard pricing.
“The world is moving on, technologies are changing at breakneck speed, bank services have changed dramatically for the recent years as well. Our customers are usually very enthusiastic about our innovative solutions. This encourages us to constantly develop and improve our products. Contactless technology allows the payment process to be way faster and much more convenient. As a result, 24 000 our customers use cards with MasterCard contactless technology. This figure is growing at a great pace – in 2015 the number of contactless payment users in our bank increased by 2.5 times,” Artur Atanov, Director of Retail Division at UniCredit Bank mentioned. “Of course, we apply best efforts to improve infrastructure so that our customers can use new options. It is the reason why we gladly got involved in testing and launching of new ATM. I am positive that we will continue fruitful cooperation with our colleagues in the market and will pleasantly surprise everybody with further innovative solutions again and again.”
“Launch of contactless ATM is one more step to enhancing security of cards use in Ukraine. This technology gives the opportunity to reduce considerably the probability of card data interception and exploitation of its duplicate by frauds. Alfa-Bank together with MasterCard has been spreading contactless payments technology within Ukraine for several years,” Oleksii Puzniak, Vice-President, director of Retail Business at Alfa-Bank Ukraine, noted. “This is the sixth year Alfa-Bank Ukraine supports Alfa Jazz and the third year of this festival being “the area of contactless payments”. Visitors can complete transactions using only MasterCаrd contactless cards, which is actually faster and much safer.”
“We in Euronet Worldwide understand that customer-oriented business model is a powerful fundamental both for long-term relationships with clients and business development.
